Employee stories

“SCADA MINDS satisfies my ambitions of having an impact on the greater scheme and allows me to keep my integrity and purpose while I learn and do my personal best every day.”

Who is Steffen Duve?

I am a proud father and engineer by heart. For more than 15 years, I have worked with software and data engineering in the wind industry, and as one of the founders of SCADA MINDS, entrepreneurism and holistic values are deeply rooted in me.

Why are you part of SCADA MINDS

SCADA MINDS satisfies my ambitions of impacting the greater scheme and allowing me to keep my integrity and purpose while I learn and do my personal best every day. I have strong ties to the SCADA MINDS family, with personal relations with colleagues and clients, making it natural to be authentic and feel at home.

What makes work at SCADA MINDS motivating for you

If I could sum it up in three words, it would be self-management, purpose, and sustainability.

At SCADA MINDS, we focus on building a culture based on self-management, which fits me perfectly. I love seeing the team innovate and self-organise when we all learn from our mistakes, convert mistakes into improvements, and join forces to work out solutions to client, company, and personal pains.

I am spending my professional efforts as a green transition crusader, working on selected projects that influence the green transition by digital means that matches my inner drive to serve society. With this, I hope my time around will have a net positive impact on mother earth.

I’m motivated to be in the game in the long run, and I have learned to consider sustainability from three perspectives. SCADA MINDS is a people company – to sustain the business, we are making a profit out of brilliant minds and have since the early days considered our colleagues and clients as partners. As a conscious choice, we are selective on clients and projects, and as a result, we live out our purpose to improve the planet’s sustainability.

RBW

Rasmus is one of SCADA MINDS’ longest-tenured employees and a highly valued Minder.

He shares his story on autism and neurodivergence at the workplace.

“In late 2019, I took sick leave from work due to stress. I went to a couple of therapists and a psychiatrist, and everyone agreed; that I had Asperger’s, which is basically high-functioning autism. It quickly became apparent that my stress wasn’t a classic case of overworking, as I usually worked fewer hours than I was supposed to, and I wasn’t expected to meet tight deadlines. Rather, it resulted from trying to function in an environment designed for neurotypical people while unaware of my neurodivergence.

“It was not an easy journey. It took much time, patience, and understanding from everyone involved. However, no one can argue that the result wasnt a success, and everyone is happy that we didnt give up.”

We are grateful to share Rasmus’ personal story of how he returned from his sick leave to have a fantastic work-life balance.

You can read Rasmus’ full story in his own LinkedIn article right here.

Gais is a Software Consultant at SCADA MINDS and based at our Aarhus office.

“SCADA MINDS provides a very high level of freedom of responsibility. You have to manage your time by yourself, which is amazing.”

I started as a software intern for a semester. Afterwards, I became a student worker, and finally, when I recently finished my Bachelor of Engineering in Software Technology, I became a full-time Software Consultant.

Why did you apply for a position at SCADA MINDS?

I felt that a company like SCADA MINDS would provide a great work environment for developing myself. My tasks create an immediate impact, and I like the idea of a work environment where you know everyone quite well.

When does your work become meaningful?

My work becomes meaningful when I get to be creative. It was an extraordinary feeling when I saw a customer using something I created for them for the first time. That was a fantastic experience.

Software engineers do not necessarily do built something which you can easily showcase. It is not a physical product like a bridge but seeing people using the programme I created feels great, and they give you excellent feedback and recognize a job well done.

How do SCADA MINDS fit with your own career goals?

I want to improve my skills and have that to the next level. SCADA MINDS empower and develop my communication skills with the clients and identifies customer pains, solutions, and value.

Additionally, SCADA MINDS provides a high level of freedom of responsibility. You get to manage your time by yourself, and that is amazing. The feeling of freedom is super cool. It puts a bit of thinking, ” Okay, if I do this, then why am I doing that? Is it worth my time? Is it relevant?” – it helps develop my software skills and makes me grow as a person. They teach me to plan and be proactive, which is super helpful. I want to grow, and I want to make sure that I am doing something that I find meaningful.

What advice would you give a person joining the company?

Relax and do your best; SCADA MINDS appreciates that. They do not expect you to know everything from the beginning. So, if you take it easy, enjoy the ride, and think about questions like “Okay, why am I doing this? Why is this important?” communicate with your team and colleagues because they are always ready for the curious questions you might have. So, yea, relax and do your best.
